PostSubject: Arabic-English Lexicon (Dictionary)   Fri Jan 14, 2011 6:34 pm

In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

“Verily we have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’ân in order that you may understand”
[Soorah Yusuf: 2]

“And thus We have inspired unto you (O Muhammad) an Arabic Qur’ân that
you may warn the mother of the towns (Makkah) and all around it”
[Soorah ash-Shura: 7]

“And truly this (the Qur’ân) is a revelation from the Lord of the
'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists), which the trustworthy Ruh
(Jibreel) has brought down upon your heart (O Muhammad) that you may be
(one) of the warners, in the plain Arabic language”
[Soorah ash-Shura: 192-195]

Arabic-English Lexicon (Dictionary)

The most scholarly dictionary of the Arabic language available. This
work is the product of over thirty years of unrelenting labour. It is a
work of such unique greatness that, since its first appearance almost
150 years ago, it has remained to this day supreme in the field of
Arabic lexicography. No scholar or group of scholars has produced
anything to supplant it. As it originally appeared and was later
reproduced, the Lexicon consisted of eight large, cumbersome volumes,
which made it difficult to use. Now, for the first time, the Islamic
Texts Society has, with no loss whatsoever of clarity or legibility,
brought together the eight large volumes into two compact volumes; it is
now possible to keep the Lexicon on the work desk and refer to it with
ease.
